About Jacklyn:

I am an part-time artist and co-author of  "Making Good: An Inspirational Guide to Being an Artist Craftsman."

Why do you buy handmade pottery?
"I allow myself to buy handmade pottery once a year at NCECA (and sometimes if something I see if truly irresistible) but I try to select something that supports an artist I know or respect and feel compelled to support. Those pieces become part of your family and are used everyday. It makes that salad or that cup of coffee just a little more special when it's served out of something beautiful."

"I have [also] acquired pieces as gifts, through trades, or buying pieces. I have worked and/or lived at Peters Valley School of Craft in New Jersey at various points over the last 9 years and I have met so many emerging artists and visiting artists who sell their work in the weekly auctions or who have been willing to trade with me which is such a special way to support each other."

How did you acquire a Lisa York piece of pottery?

"I have two pieces from Lisa, one is a serving bowl that was fired in the train kiln at Hood and the other is a small bud vase from the soda kiln at Hood College. Both of these pieces were gifted to me and I use them all the time! Lisa and I worked together for about 3 years at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and we helped build both of those kilns as well as fire them numerous times. They just have such a sentimental value to our time in Maryland."
