I have a home/studio!After many months of looking...we finally have a home to call our own in Milwaukee, WI. It's going to take a few more months to water proof my new basement studio, and to install tile flooring. So, I am making the best of it, and turning my creative energy over to wood working. Finally using these maple boards and black walnut slab that were wedding gifts. I'm looking forward to sharing before and after photos.
Kiln Unload = Christmas PresentsPulling blue pots from the wood kiln still makes me giggle...yes I'm that person. Take a close look at that electric blue on the berry bowl I'm holding. It's amazing how different a glaze looks depending on the clay body. My onion jar on the left is a blue glaze on a white stoneware versus the berry bowl in the middle has the same blue glaze on porcelain.
The last image is of Amy holding up some of her mini plates with no glaze on them at all. Good bye Lyndon, IL Studio. If all goes as planned we will be selling our tiny house in Lyndon, IL and buying a different tiny house in Milwaukee, WI later this month. In the meanwhile, my Uncle is graciously providing us with temporary housing in Wisconsin. The Lyndon, IL studio will certainly be one of my most memorable studios. The studio took up the majority of the house, and during the winter my electric kiln heated our tiny house up to 90F which was very handy when our furnace broke during below freezing weather conditions. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into our first house. New siding, paint, flooring, trim, doors, electrical updates, lots of accent walls...and more. Whoops...we put a little more time and money than we should have in that house, but who would have known we were only going to be there for such a short time.
Some great ceramics were made in that little house, and lots of memories. So excited to have my first article published! The editors at Ceramics Monthly were terrific to work with and I am also grateful for the high quality photos Adam Levition was able to take. If you have not had a chance to see my article in Ceramics Monthly's December 2015 issue it is attached below.
