NCECA 2018: Pittsburgh, PA! As I finalize preparations to attend the conference, I wanted to share some of my tips about getting the most out of the conference. This information is especially valuable for those of you attending NCECA for the first time.
Plan:
My Group Exhibition: I have been co-organizing the exhibition Ash and Flash with Denise Joyal. I have to say a huge thank you to Denise who took on the brunt of the work as I have been busy moving and making this transition to Savanna, IL. Hope to see you at our opening reception Friday, March 16 at the Sweetwater Center for the Arts. "Essential Earth: Invitational Ceramics Exhibition" at the Wayne Art Center This spring filled with amazing new opportunities in ceramics. So much to be grateful for! It was such an honor to be invited into "Essential Earth," and to exhibit along side of really amazing established and emerging artists.
Cannot forget to mention the the exhibition "Ceramic Innovations" an equally amazing international juried exhibit that was going on at the same time. If you want to see more images from both exhibitions check out the Wayne Art Center website by clicking here. "Thrown and Carved" at the Clay Coop I also have a solo exhibition up at the Clay Coop in Rockville, MD. This exhibit will be accompanied by a workshop about altering pots off the wheel by carving. There are still a select number of seats left in this workshop! If you have not heard of the Clay Coop before and you live in the DC area you should definitely check out their website by clicking here. To sum things up I'm also excited to share that I am now apart of the group "Home Before Dawn." This is a retail space with its roots in Cumberland, Maryland. Online peddling of select artists and craftspeople from mountain Maryland and more is what we enjoy. Check out the work by clicking here. its roots in Cumberland, Maryland. The exhibit "Decadence of Display: Ceramics for Dessert" will be on display January 26th to February 20th at Whitaker Gallery, Hood College, Frederick, MD. It's still up for another 12 days. My ceramic pieces have traveled from my exhibit “Küchen” in Germany. The other artists in this group exhibit are: Elizabeth Coleman, Adrienne Eliades, Kate Maury, Catie Miller, Helen Otterson, and Eric Thornton. Each participant has created work revolving around this theme of dessert with a wide range of styles. Clays ranging from porcelain to earthen-ware, and German clays. Some examples of the surface techniques are sprigs, silkscreen, slip designs, inlay and more. A few images from my solo exhibition "Coalesce" at Brockway Center for the Arts, Brockway, PA. A selection of soda-fired and wood-fired ceramics from the last couple of years. Accompanied by a workshop on thrown and altered ceramics. The theme of this exhibit is Psychometry, or “the supposed ability to discover facts about an event or person by touching objects associated with them.” Through the ceramic pieces, one has a window into my life – the long hours spent learning how to construct and fire ceramics, the sawdust that was left behind as I carved, the travels that inspired the surfaces, my past that emphasizes function. These pieces will gain even more of a story when they enter into the new owners hands, and begin to have new memories associated with them.
