8/31/2020

Picture
Freshly planted and picked wild flowers from our new Connecticut yard for my husband's Birthday. Yes, you heard me right; my husband loves getting flowers too! These wild flowers make the perfect birthday bouquet. I especially love how these orange flowers are bringing out the warmer colors of these this earthy vase.

Customer Review of Lisa York Arts Pottery

I realized the mug and I are very similar. Tall and slender, a little golden, a little grey, a little out of round. Perfect."

Happy National Dog Day

8/26/2020

Maple, the best studio dog and adventure buddy that I could have wished for.

Picture
I'm so grateful for my dog maple. She is the perfect mix of lazy and energetic. She is cool with sleeping for hours on end in my studio or hopping in the car to go off on an adventure. There is no dog I would rather take a break with to drink my coffee or tea.

Basement Ceramic Studio near Hartford, Connecticut

8/25/2020

Picture
Today was my first day touching clay this summer, if you don't count moving bags of clay in and out of moving trucks. So excited to have my potter's wheel and workbench set up in my new basement studio in Rocky Hill, CT.
Get ready to see some different work as I embark on a journey of leaving my aesthetic of soda and wood fired pots behind. Ready or not experimental pots here I come.

New Connecticut Art Studio

8/11/2020

My new ceramic art studio in Connecticut is a work in progress.

Picture
Welcome to the beginnings of assembling my new basement clay studio in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.

My husband and I have:
  • ripped up the old carpet
  • cut and installed sheet vinyl
  • reinstalled floor boards
  • painted walls lighter gray
  • and now I am sanding up black walnut boards for pottery display.
I already have a long list of other things I want to do including looking for a contractor to install a big basement window like I had in my Wisconsin basement studio (packed up studio pictured below).

It's still hard for me to believe I have left my Milwaukee studio, garden, and community behind as this move to Connecticut happened so quickly.

Ps. Sheet vinyl flooring, if you do not have a clean concrete pad, is the best choice for flooring in a ceramic studio as it is super easy to mop and their are no grooves for clay dust to gather in. And sheet vinyl flooring is water proof.
